My Precious

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a major sweet tooth. Now that I am attempting to eat healthier, I feel the sweet siren call of sugar – or as some may know it, the buy one get two free special on Freihoffer’s Chocolate Chip Cookies at Price Chopper.
I have gotten to the point that I can walk past a simple BOGO (buy one get one) deal on them without flinching, but two free is such a sweet temptation. I can generally go thru a box in a single sitting. That is even more likely when I know I have three boxes to go thru before they get kind of stale.
The first 2 boxes disappeared in two consecutive nights. Last night I only ate around half of the last box. Tonight – I must have my precious.

The Other Woman in My Life

Within a few short years of meeting my wife, Linda, I had a talk with her about the other woman in my life – Little Debbie. You see, I have an incredible sweet tooth. I used to eat Fudge Rounds, Mini-Donuts, Devil Squares, Frosted Fudge Cakes, Chocolate Cupcakes, Nutty Bars, Peanut Butter Crunch Bars, and Swiss Rolls at an alarming rate. I’m sure I’ve left something out as Little Debbie had so many delicious treats.

I say “had” because, sadly, I can’t remember the last time I had any of Little Debbie’s snacks. Now that I am getting older I need to be more mindful of what I eat. It’s not that I’m getting fat – far from it. However, my family has a bit more of a relationship with cancer than I’d like and I’m sure all the processed treats don’t stack the deck in my favor. Gone are the days of chugging a 3 liter bottle of soda in one night. Boxes of processed frozen Weaver Chicken have been replaced by fresh poultry from the grocery store.

Being fussy hasn’t made the transition to healthier food an easy task. Knowing that I have a sweet tooth, are there any healthy sweet treats that you think I might like? If so, let me know and I’ll try them out.

College Experimentation

Back in college I experimented with some of the foods I like to see if I could come up with something new that I liked. I have a major sweet tooth so Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup was a part of those experiments. Along with discovering the Resses’s Peanut Butter Dog, I stumbled upon the Chocolate Fluffer-nutter. I would spread peanut butter on one slice, and Fluff on the other. Then I would pour a small amount of chocolate syrup and spread it over the Fluff side.

I’d love to hear about any strange but tasty food you’ve tried and what you think of my Chocolate Fluffer-nutter.

A Strange Concoction

As a fussy eater, it’s sometimes a little tiring eating basically the same things over and over. To deal with that, when I was younger I would sometimes try mixing things I did like together in new and unusual ways. Most of the time, the result wasn’t nearly as good as I’d hoped.

I did come up with one that was surprisingly good. I took a hotdog roll and spread peanut butter on it. Then I added a hotdog. If that isn’t strange enough for you, I then poured Hershey’s chocolate syrup over the hotdog. I affectionately referred to this as the Reese’s Peanut Butter Dog.  Unfortunately, they’re not really good for you so I’ve pretty much taken these out of my diet.

I’ve only managed to convince one friend to try one and he thought it was interesting. If any of you are daring enough to try it, let me know what you think of it.
